About

Roma Dei Papi B&B

Roma Dei Papi B&B occupies the middle entrance of a large apartment building in Piazza Adriana, a short walk from Castel Sant'Angelo. It's a small, family-run business; guests regularly mention easy walking access to the Vatican, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Piazza Cavour, as well as Lepanto metro station.

Rooms are cleaned daily and come with desks, safes, mini-bars, flat-screen TVs, soundproofing and free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is a consistent highlight — fresh croissants, pastries, cheese and yoghurt with coffee — and the staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful. The main practical caveat is the fixed 14:00–20:00 check-in window.

What works, what to weigh

Strengths

5 reasons to book
  • Staff are the standout — A Staff score of 9.7 and reviews that consistently mention a friendly, helpful and English-speaking team — from the reception desk to the breakfast room.
  • A location that does the sightseeing work for you — Guests describe the B&B as literally by Castel Sant'Angelo, a two-minute walk from Piazza Cavour, with the Vatican, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona all within easy walking distance.
  • Clean, practical rooms — Rooms score 9.4 and facilities 9.5, with guests noting daily cleaning, comfortable beds, desks, safes, mini-bars and good showers; the room list also includes soundproofing.
  • Breakfast is a genuine plus — Fresh pastries, croissants, cheese, yoghurt and coffee keep appearing in reviews, and the Dining score is 9.1.
  • Honest value for the centre of Rome — A Value score of 8.9, rooms listed from £110, and a guest review calling it great value for money.

Worth weighing

4 to weigh
  • Comfort is the weakest score — Comfort rates 7.5, below the rest of the property's scores. One guest could hear reception phone conversations from the room, though they said it wasn't a problem.
  • Arrivals need to work around a set window — Check-in is limited to 14:00–20:00, and the courtyard entrance is locked at night and on Sundays; guests ring the bell to have the gate and front door opened.
  • Finding the entrance takes a little care — One guest warns that Google Maps puts the address on the wrong side of Piazza Adriana — look for the pavement sign and the middle entrance of the apartment building.
  • No pets allowed — The policy is no pets allowed, so it won't suit anyone travelling with an animal.

“Breakfast was satisfactory, with fresh pastries on offer.”

“An ideal, clean hotel with friendly reception staff, attractive rooms and a great shower.”

“A wonderful central location close to the Vatican, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and plenty of Rome's monuments, shops and restaurants — the Palazzo is about 2 km away. The room was large, with central heating, a flat-screen TV and a writing desk, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious: cheese, buns, yoghurts and freshly made restaurant food.”

“Every morning the smell of fresh pastries filled the air, and the quiet surroundings made for restful nights even though the main sights are just steps away.”

“A superb location — literally by Castel Sant'Angelo and a two-minute walk from Piazza Cavour, where many buses stop. The small, family-run property has good-size rooms with comfortable beds, a desk and a small fridge/minibar, plus a large bathroom with a shower niche that wasn't too big but worked well for us. Rooms were cleaned every day and the safe was useful. Owner Stefano was extremely nice, helpful and friendly, as was one of the breakfast staff; the rest of the reception team were friendly and helpful too. We heard no noise from other rooms, though reception voices could carry if they spoke loudly on the phone — not a problem for us. The entrance is in a courtyard that is locked at night and on Sundays; you ring the bell and the gate and front door are opened. Two tips: take the shuttle bus from Fiumicino airport rather than the train to Termini or Trastevere — it stops by Piazza Cavour, about two minutes from the hotel, and takes about 50 minutes. Also, Google Maps shows the wrong location: the address is on the upper right side of the pentagon that is Piazza Adriana, not the left. A sign on the pavement marks the spot, and you'll find the B&B in the middle entrance of what looks like a large apartment building. All in all, great value for money — we'd stay again in a heartbeat.”
